Diet High In Refined Carbohydrates May Put Post-Menopausal Women At Higher Risk For Depression.

This is one of many articles coming out in support of neuro-psychiatric benefits of low carb nutrition. It has been our impression that the most responsive body system to low carb nutrition has been the brain including improvements in mood, depression, anxiety, bipolar disease, ADD, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Autism, seizure frequency, etc etc. There is no doubt that the central nervous system is suffering from the carbohydrate influence but as important is the lack of fats in the high carb diet. Fats and cells that are full of stored fats surround all the neuron wires in the brain and work as insulators, like the rubber coating on the power lines. If those cells are lacking or lacking in fat, then cross talk occurs between the nerves and dysfunction occurs. It makes sense then that we need high fat in our diet to protect our brains.

There are now a few psychiatrists who are promoting low carb high fat diets for their patients and report amazing results. Ever wonder why most people today are on an anxiety or depression drug. How did we evolve as a species without such protection? Or is it just that our diet is wiping us out??
