More than 60% of pregnant women are obese!

These “news stories” would lead you to believe that they just figured this stuff out yesterday. Wow…If you go to the CDC website Obesity Prevalence Maps 2013 – DNPAO – CDC and watch the powerpoint presentation of the year by year increase in obesity be sure and look at 1985 – 2010 and the 2011-2013 slides. The CDC makes a big deal of the fact that they now include cell numbers in their survey and therefore you can’t compare the new with the old. I’m skeptical that this makes any significant difference; I think somebody in the government wants you to think the problem is not as bad as you may think?? Remember this is obesity, defined as BMI > 29 and the above article includes “overweight” which is BMI of >25

So it is hard for me to believe that this is really news. Anyone walking at the mall can figure this out. The pregnancy complications are bad but remember it is not obesity causing the complications it is insulin resistance, fueled by high carb diet that causes both obesity and the gestational complications.
