Researchers Recommend SSRIs To Treat PMDD.

October 22, 2015

Dr. Fox responds to the following article:

Researchers Recommend SSRIs To Treat PMDD.

Our traditional research on PMDD or PMS as it was referred to in the past, has a separatist philosophy. We have separated reproductive hormones from the disorder and focused on it from a psychiatric point of view. Our clinical findings strongly suggest that this disorder that peaks in the early to mid 40’s is due primarily to lower estrogen due to declining ovarian function. This “diminished ovarian reserve” is nearly always caused by endometriosis. Therefore, many women with this disorder will also have painful cycles. Simply adding estrogen to these women can be a miracle cure. This is in deference to the traditional approach of using SSRI’s (anti-depressants), anxiety drugs or migraine drugs. These drugs merely cover up the problem and don’t fix it. Estrogen fixes the problem in nearly all patients we have encountered. If you or someone you know has the problems, we are happy to help.
